Rockwall is Texas's smallest county by area, yet its fast-growing suburban and exurban population consistently delivers lopsided Republican margins — hitting R+40.9 in 2024 — making it a reliable anchor in northeast Dallas's exurban ring.

The unraveling was not abrupt. The Democratic margin in Rockwall County peaked at ninety-six points in 1912; it narrowed steadily over the late twentieth century. The 1972 election delivered the county to the Republican party for the first time in many years, by a margin of fifty-one points. By 2024, the margin had widened further.

The economic and demographic context is severe. Rockwall County's median household income of $127,981 is among the lowest of any county in the United States; 4% of residents live below the federal poverty line. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Comal County and Lubbock County.
