Gadsden, just west of Tallahassee, is Florida's only majority-Black county and its most reliably Democratic, backing the 2024 presidential nominee by more than 30 points while every other county in the state moved into the Republican column.

The Democratic margin in Gadsden County peaked at ninety-five points in 1920. By 1976 the county had flipped, voting Republican for the first time in many years. The 2024 margin was thirty-one points, the most Democratic-leaning result in the county's modern history.

The economic context is the key. Gadsden County's median household income of $48,801 sits well below state and national norms, and 28% of residents live below the federal poverty line. The shift here is part of a broader realignment of working-class places across the country. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Bolivar County and Bamberg County.
